TEMPE, Ariz. - Five members of the Air Force hammer throw team opened competition at the Arizona State Invitational this evening (March 22) in Tempe. Junior Becca Bauman highlighted the night for the group competing at Sun Angel Stadium, as she recorded the ninth-best distance in Academy history.
Bauman improved her personal-best distance in the hammer throw by nine inches (162'9") to finish 13th in the 23-thrower event. She was one of two Falcons to tally career-best marks in the women's competition, as sophomore Danielle Tabb added nearly two feet to her distance (130'0") to place 20th.
On the men's side, junior Jalen Fooster recorded a distance to 177'1" to earn a sixth-place finish in the men's field of 18. Classmate William Kent placed 12th with a distance of 162'0", while freshman Grant Hamilton finished 16th with a toss of 144'7".
While the hammer throwers opened competition tonight at ASU, the remainder of the Falcons' squad competes tomorrow (March 23) at Sun Angel Stadium. The day kicks off with the discus at 10 a.m. (PST), while the other field events get underway at 3 p.m., and the running events are slated to start at 5:45 p.m.
