AMES, Iowa - With a program-best 800-meter time of 2:06.53, Air Force senior Annette Eichenberger captured her third Academy record of the year during the final day of competition at the Iowa State Classic. The Falcons' team captain was one of two Falcons to impact the program's all-time list on Saturday, Feb. 15, in Ames, Iowa.
Eichenberger, who also set the program standards in the 600- and 1000-meter events earlier this season, cut nearly a half-second off of the previous Academy record that had stood since 2010. She also improved her own time in the event by over three seconds to finish fourth among collegiate runners and sixth in the full 22-competitor field.
The program's top-10 list also received an update from sophomore Patrick Corona, who improved his time in the 3000-mter run by 10 seconds to debut in 10th on the all-time list. Clocking a career-best 8:08.66, Corona finished third amongst collegiate competitors - and fourth overall - in the 22-runner event.
Three Falcons competed in the 800-meter run at the Lied Recreation Center today. Freshman Matt Dorsey clocked a time of 1:53.02 to finish 27th in the seeded second of that distance, while senior Matthieu Caldwell and sophomore Grant Caswell finished fourth (1:54.34) and seventh (1:54.70), respectively, in the unseeded section.
Juniors Zach Perkins and Rebecca Esselstein rounded out the Air Force contingent with performances in the mile. Perkins clocked a season-debut of 4:09.63 to finish 22nd in the men's race, while Esselstein placed 23rd in the women's event behind a time of 4:57.66.
Indoor action continues for the Falcons next Friday (Feb. 21), when several athletes travel to Laramie, Wyo., for the Rocky Mountain Classic.
