SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014-15: Became the third pole vaulter in Academy history to surpass the 13-foot mark...recorded a career-best indoor clearance of 13’1 ½” to win the Rocky Mountain Classic...that height is ranked third on the Academy’s all-time list...also earned a first-place finish at the Air Force Team Challenge (12’3½”) and finished second at the Air Force Invitational (12’5½”)...earned the team’s Field Athlete of the Week award twice during the indoor season...debuted in ninth on the Academy’s all-time during the outdoor season...recorded a clearance of 12’0½” at the Beach Invitational...earned one runner-up finish during the outdoor season, clearing 11’8½” at the Air Force Twilight Open.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013-14: Debuted in ninth on the Academy’s all-time indoor pole vault standings...cleared a career-best 12'3½" to finish fourth at the Air Force Collegiate Open...won that event at the Rocky Mountain Classic with a height of 11'5¾"...also finished among the top five at the Air Force Invitational, Air Force Holiday Open and the Air Force Team Challenge...earned the team’s Field Athlete of the Week twice during the indoor season...competed in seven outdoor competitions...recorded a collegiate outdoor-best clearance of 11'6½" to finish third at the Air Force Twilight Open...also finished third at the Jack Christiansen Invitational...finished within the top-five during five of the last six outdoor meets.

HIGH SCHOOL: Little Cypress Mauriceville High School...four-year letterwinner in track and field...district pole vault champion as a senior...holds the school and district record in that event at 12'0"...finished second at the Region 3-4A Championships on two occasions...two-time state competitor...served as team captain during senior year...also lettered in basketball...member of the marching band and concert band for four years...also spent three years as a member of the jazz band...served as section leader (trumpets) during both junior and senior years...ranked fourth among 260 students in graduating class...named to the A/B Honor Roll...served as president of the National Honor Society...also served as vice-president of senior class.

PERSONAL: Full name is Zoe Marie Casteel...nickname is “Nuts”...daughter of Allen and Angie Casteel...both parents competed in track and field at Washington University in St. Louis...has one younger sister, Ivy...majoring in systems engineering...future plans include becoming a developmental engineering in the Air Force...served as Element Leader...hobbies include looking at puppies on Instagram, watching food tutorial videos with Hannah Durbin, mountain climbing with limited supplies (“because, well, I’m an amateur”), jeeping (“yes, it’s a verb”), climbing the occasional rock, drinking coffee, searching for the perfect cup of coffee and “doing my best to live life and glorify God each and every day”...self-proclaimed ‘super band nerd’...favorite scripture is Joshua 1:9 (“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”) ...#TeamDemi...worked in the tactical operations center during Expeditionary Survival and Evasion Training (ESET) over the summer...also completed Operation Air Force at Langley AFB, Va., and took leave at home in Texas...member of Cadet Squadron 24.
