JUNIOR (2010): All-American in the 5000-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Championships...was the top American finisher at that meet, clocking a career-best time of 13:37.66...that time is an Academy record by nearly 15 seconds...that time is also the fastest ever by a Mountain West Conference runner, bettering the previous best by over four seconds...Mountain West Conference champion in the 3000-meter run...three-time all-conference honoree...set three Academy records...first set indoor 5000-meter record (13:52.47, altitude adjusted) with a runner-up finish at the conference championships, before breaking that mark at the NCAA Championships...also set outdoor records in the 1500-meter run (3:44.05) and 5000-meter run (13:37.66)...also recorded the second-fastest time in Academy history in the 3000-meter steeplechase (8:41.09)...finished the outdoor season ranked among the nation's top-10 in the steeplechase (fourth) and 5000-meter run (eighth)...qualified for the national preliminary meet in both events, but was forced to sit out due to injury...won two championship titles at the Service Academy Championships...set meet records behind winning times in the 1500-meter run (3:47.32) and 5000-meter run (14:09.44)...shattered the previous SAC meet record by 27 seconds...claimed the conference's weekly award following that meet...also collected first-place finishes in the 1000-meter run at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational and in the mile run at the adidas Classic...was the only Falcon to win three different events during the indoor season...received the team's Most Valuable Competitor Award...also earned the program's High Point Award and the Alonzo Babers Outstanding Performance Award...named the program's Athlete of the Week on seven occasions (three indoors, four outdoors)...named Mountain West Conference Athlete of the Week on March 30...received the Air Force Athlete of the Week award on April 19.
SOPHOMORE (2009): Received the team's Most Improved Award...all-region honoree in the 3000-meter steeplechase...moved into sixth on the program's all-time list in the steeplechase, with a time of 9:00.68...recorded that time at the Arizona State Invitational...placed eighth in that event at the NCAA Regional Championships with a time of 9:05.06...placed seventh at the MWC Championships in the steeplechase (9:34.48)...recorded the ninth-best time in Academy history (14:11.37) in the 5000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays...placed first among 47 runners at that meet...also qualified to the NCAA regional meet in that event...finished seventh at the conference meet in the 5000-meter race (15:11.40)...also competed in the 1500-meter run during the outdoor season, clocking a season-best time of 3:55.63 at the Missouri Tom Botts Invitational...ran the second leg of the 4x1600-meter relay team that clocked a season-best time of 17:15.65 to place ninth at the Drake Relays...placed seventh at the conference's indoor championships with a time of 15:23.90 in the 5000-meter run...that time was an indoor season-best and the third-fastest time on the team...also competed in the 3000-meter race, clocking a season-best time of 8:30.63 (adjusted for altitude)...earned the team's Track Athlete of the Week award on two occasions.
FRESHMAN (2008): Competed in the mile and 3000-meter races during the indoor season...clocked a time of 4:34.21 (adjusted for altitude) at the Robert Shine Invitational...set a career-best 3000-meter time (8:46.67) at the Big 12/Mountain West Conference Challenge...ran the outdoor 1500 in 4:06.91 at the Willie Williams Classic...also participated in the 3000-meter steeplechase...time of 9:27.58a at the Front Range Invitational was the fourth-fastest on the team.
HIGH SCHOOL: All-state selection...finished 10th at the Minnesota AA cross country championships...clocked a personal-best time of 4:24.96 in the 1600-meter run at the Minnesota AA track and field championships...member of the U.S. Junior World Cup Biathlon Team in 2007.
PERSONAL: Full name is Justin Wilson Tyner...nickname is "Snuggles"...son of Richard and Linda Tyner...has three older siblings, Lyric, Harmony and Nathanial...majoring in systems engineering management...future plans include becoming a pilot...has served as Wing Operations NCO, Group Standardization and Evaluation NCO, Element Leader and Squadron Chief of Standardization and Evaluation...member of the `500 Club'...hobbies include playing guitar, hiking and eating...spent the summer serving as a sports camp counselor, completing the Powered Flight Program and taking English 411...member of the Air Force cross country team...two-time MVP...two-time all-conference and all-region honoree...2010 team captain...participated at the last two NCAA Cross Country Championships...member of Cadet Squadron 32.
