SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2015-16: Earned the program's Most Outstanding Competitor award...Mountain West champion in the outdoor high jump...all-conference selection...NCAA qualifier...posted Academy-record clearances of 5'10½" during both the indoor and outdoor seasons...that height also broke the Academy's 20-year-old Sophomore Class Record...two-time MW Women's Field Athlete of the Week honoree (Jan. 12, May 10)...collected six first-place finishes on the year...improved her own Academy record in the outdoor high jump (5'10½") to win the Air Force Twilight Open...that clearance was ranked second in the conference and 28th in the nation during the outdoor season...became the program's second MW champion in the high jump with a winning clearance of 5'9¼"...first cleared the 5'10½" bar to match the Academy's indoor record and win the Air Force Team Challenge...also picked up first-place honors at the Air Force Holiday Open (5'8¾"), Air Force Collegiate Open (5'8¾") and Michael Johnson Classic (5'8")...received the team's Athlete of the Week award four times...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete...named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2014-15: Earned the program's Newcomer of the Year award...impacted the top three of both the indoor and outdoor high jump standings...matched the Academy's outdoor high jump record with a clearance of 5'9¼" at the Rock Chalk Classic...that height is a new Freshman Class Record...scored for Air Force at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships after finishing sixth with a height of 5'7"...initially set Freshman Class Record in collegiate debut during the indoor season...matched the third-best indoor clearance in Academy history (5'8¾") to win the Air Force Holiday Open...missed all but five competitions due to injury...received the team's Field Athlete of the Week award following the Air Force Holiday Open and the Rock Chalk Classic...academic all-conference selection.

PERSONAL: Full name is Michelle Jules Spires...goes by Shelley...nickname is "Shaq"...daughter of Jim and Michelle Spires...has two older brothers -- Patrick, a 2010 Academy graduate, former member of the Air Force football team and current A-10 pilot, and Jacob, the quarterback who led the University of Alabama to the 2015 CFP national championship ("Roll Tide")...also has one younger brother, Payton, who will enter the Academy in 2017 and play on the men's basketball team...majoring in behavioral science...future career plans include working in the intelligence or space fields...serving as squadron's First Sergeant during the 2016-17 academic year...also served as an Element Leader during the second session of Basic Cadet Training...hobbies include reading, baking ("aka eating cookie dough"), being outside, napping whenever possible, hoarding Frosted Mini-Wheats, drinking coffee and spending time with family and friends...spent three weeks over the summer at Randolph AFB, Texas, for Operation Air Force...also worked BCT and traveled home...spent two years as a member of the Air Force volleyball team...earned all-conference (honorable mention) honors as a sophomore...considers greatest personal moments in sports winning three state championship titles with the volleyball team and winning eight state championships with the track and field team...member of Cadet Squadron 27.
