Program-Record 43 Named to Academic All-MW List

A total of 30 men and 13 women comprised 43 of the Academy's 65 academic all-conference selections.

JUNIOR YEAR | 2014-15: Received the team’s Callie Calhoun Award for Drive and Determination...competed in the pole vault during 17 meets...recorded a career-best height of 12’8¾” at the New Mexico Invitational...that is the eighth-best indoor clearance in Academy history...became the 11th vaulter in Academy history to break the 12-foot mark during indoor competition after clearing 12’5½” to finish second at the Air Force Holiday Open...claimed six top-five finishes during the indoor season...registered a personal-best outdoor clearance of 12’7½” to win the Jack Christiansen Invitational...that height is tied for fifth on the program’s all-time list...improved career-best outdoor clearance during three straight meets (12’4” at the Bryan Clay Invitational, 12’6¼” at the Beach Invitational, 12’7½” at the Jack Christiansen Invitational)...also earned a first-place finish at the Air Force Twilight Open (12’4½”) and tied for second at the Jerry Quiller Classic (10’11¾”)...earned the team’s Field Athlete of the Week award three times (once indoors, twice outdoors)...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2013-14: Competed in the pole vault during 13 meets (nine indoor, four outdoor)...recorded the ninth-best outdoor clearance in Academy history (12'0") at the Beach Invitational...earned the team’s Field Athlete of the Week award following that meet...claimed two top-five finishes during the outdoor season (Air Force Relays, second; Baldy Castillo Invitational, fourth)...earned a scoring finish for the Falcons at the Mountain West Indoor Championships after placing eighth (11'10½")...matched career-best indoor clearance with a jump of 11'11¾" at the Air Force Collegiate Open (fifth)...won the pole vault at the Rocky Mountain Classic (11'5¾")...added top-five finishes at the Holiday Inn Invitational (fourth) and Air Force Invitational (fifth)...received the program’s Falcon Award for Spirit and Enthusiasm...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2012-13: Competed in the pole vault during eight meets...recorded the 10th-best indoor clearance in Academy history (11'11¾") with winning effort in collegiate debut at the Air Force Holiday Open...received "Standout" distinction from the team following that meet...matched career-best height at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic...competed in the 60-meter hurdles once, posting a time of 9.48 at the Air Force Holiday Open...cleared an outdoor-best pole vault mark of 10'11¾" at the Air Force Relays...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete.

HIGH SCHOOL: Oswego High School…nationally ranked in the pole vault and 100-meter hurdles in 2011-12…two-time all-state selection in both events…finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the Illinois 3A State High School Championships as a junior…finished 10th in the pole vault at the state meet as a senior…served as president of the National Honor Society…class vice-president…valedictorian.

PERSONAL: Daughter of John and Dianna Vann…has two younger brothers, Tucker and Tanner…majoring in English…future plans include becoming a public affairs or intelligence officer...served as Group 4 Honor Chairman…became a member of the PFT "500 Club" on first try…invited to the Scholars Program...once rode an elephant in Thailand...favorite Starbucks drink is the white chocolate mocha...favorite bird is the Marabou Stork...favorite selfie pose is the Duck Face (“I am venturing into selfie photography, but am not yet basic enough to post”) life goals and has decided to die alone with Alaskan malamute puppies instead of cats (“much cuter”)...biggest achievements to date include hitting EXACTLY 25 miles-per-hour on the North Gate bridge and watching every episode of Friends in order...still a proficient Facebook stalker and Pinterest browser (“my most searched pages include weddings, fall fashion and DIY, even though I am not getting married, have zero style and can’t afford to craft”)...hopes to have own Pinterest page, called TheCraftyCadet, before graduation that will feature all failed attempts at craftiness...biggest regret is failing to fully read and memorize the CSP...would like to add “If you recognize me, it’s probably from the current Air Force Academy commercial, in which I play a beloved all-star athlete. My fame has inspired me to up my Insta-game for the fans, and I now have a total of 13 posts and 24 followers”...completed Operation Air Force at Holloman AFB, N.M., over the summer...also served as Wing Honor Chairman and worked as cadre during the second session of Basic Cadet Training…member of Cadet Squadron 38.
