Rachel Herald Breaks Academy High Jump Record in Season Opener

The senior was one of 10 event winners for the Falcons at the Air Force Holiday Open.

JUNIOR YEAR | 2012-13: Improved career-best clearance to 5'7" during both the indoor and outdoor high jump...first recorded that mark during the indoor season at the Air Force Team Challenge...that height is tied for fourth on the program's all-time indoor list...placed fourth at the Mountain West Indoor Championships with a height of 5'6"...added a clearance of 5'7" during the outdoor season at the Air Force Relays (fourth...that mark is tied for the second-best outdoor clearance in program history...scored for the Falcons at the MW Outdoor Championships (5'6½", sixth)...won the high jump at the Jerry Quiller Classic and Air Force Triangular with matching marks of 5'5"...earned "Standout" distinction from the team on three occasions.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2011-12: Recorded the third-best outdoor high jump clearance in Academy history...cleared 5'6" to win the Air Force Relays...that mark was the best on the team in 2012...finished fourth at the Front Range Classic with a mark of 5'5"...scored for the Falcons at the Mountain West Championships during both the indoor (fourth) and outdoor (seventh) seasons...posted a career-high clearance of 5'6" during fourth-place performance at the indoor meet...that mark is the sixth-best clearance in program history...also recorded that height at the Nebraska adidas Classic and at the New Mexico Classic...won the Robert Shine Invitational with a mark of 5'4¼"...also placed second at the Air Force All-Comers Meet with a height of 5'5".

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2010-11: Recorded the seventh-best indoor high jump clearance in Academy history...posted a career-best 5'5" to place fifth at the Air Force All-Comers Meet...recorded an outdoor-best height of 5'3¾" to finish fourth at the CSU-Pueblo Invitational...collected four additional top-10 finishes during the outdoor season.

HIGH SCHOOL: Rockford High School...runner-up in the high jump at the 2008 MHSAA State Championships...three-time MITCA high jump state champion (2007, 2008, 2009)...2008 OK Red Conference champion...2008 MHSAA regional champion...was the runner-up in the high jump at the MHSAA regional championships in 2009 and 2010...named Field Event MVP in 2008...first-team all-state honoree...Rockford High school record holder...placed fourth at the 2009 MITS state meet and fifth in 2008...four-time qualifier to Nike Nationals (outdoor 2008, 2009; indoor 2009, 2010)...member of the team that finished second at the 2009 and 2010 MHSAA meet...four-year letterwinner in track and field...also earned two letters in basketball...member of the team that won the 2008 district championships...2008 academic all-state selection...four-year academic letterwinner...graduated Summa Cum Laude...member of the National Honor Society.

PERSONAL: Full name is Rachel Elizabeth Herald...daughter of Mark and Cecile Herald...has four younger brothers, Alex, Aaron, Jared and Jordan (quadruplets)...majoring in humanities...future plans include working in logistics or personnel...served as Assistant C Flight Commander...enjoys people watching and walking on sidewalks...is an avid supporter of Michigan State Basketball...would like to have a "shout out to Mike Thomas for always believing in me"...worked as a Safety Medical Officer during Basic Cadet Training and LRC cadre in Jack's Valley over the summer...also traveled home to Rockford, Mich., to spend time with the "troops" (quadruplet brothers)...member of Cadet Squadron 22.
