75 cadet-athletes earn Mountain West all-academic honors

The 75 honorees is the third most since the Falcons joined the MW in 1999-2000

Personal-Best Marks -- Javelin Throw: 202'9"

JUNIOR YEAR | 2016-17: Competed in the javelin throw during six meets...posted a season-best 199'6" to finish fourth at the Air Force Twilight Open...won the Mines Last Chance Meet with a throw of 189'3"...added top-five finishes at the Michael Johnston Invitational (fourth, 194'3") and the Aztec Invitational (fifth, 182'8")...academic all-conference selection.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2015-16: Shared the program's Newcomer of the Year award...competed in the javelin throw four times...recorded a career-best 202'9" to finish second at the Air Force Twilight Open...that distance was ranked third in the Mountain West in 2016...won the Colorado Invitational (163'10") and took third at the Aztec Invitational (164'7")...finished fourth at the MW Championships with a toss of 191'1"...helped Air Force claim four of the top-five finishes in the javelin at the conference meet...academic all-conference selection.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2014-15: Did not compete for the track and field team.

PERSONAL: Full name is Luke Edward Piper...son of Ralph and Angela Piper...has two younger brothers...majoring in management...earning a minor in Portuguese...future plans include becoming a pilot...served as Grill Master for squadron...named to the Dean's List...hobbies include competitive ice skating, Frisbee golf, put-put golf and synchronized swimming...aspiring pole vaulter...favorite food is "momma's peach cobbler"...if he could be any superhero, it would be The Flash...favorite quote is from Ricky Bobby ("if you're not first, you're last")...favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 5:19...earned private pilot's license in the summer of 2016...member of Cadet Squadron 38.
