HIGH SCHOOL: Brentwood High School...won the national title in the pentathlon at the New Balance Indoor National Championships...two-time Tennessee state champion in the decathlon (2011, 2012)...also won the long jump at the 2012 TSSAA state championships and placed third in the triple jump...won the decathlon at the 2010 Junior Olympics. PERSONAL: Full name is James Kenneth Lazas...goes by Jake...son of Don and Kathy Lazas...father served in the Army...has two older brothers, Donnie and Kevin, and two older sisters, Katie and Laura...Kevin, who competes in the decathlon at the University of Arkansas, set the American Junior Record in the decathlon in 2011 and finished third in that event at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships...currently undecided on a major...future career plans include piloting either fighter jets or helicopters...considers high school coach Gary Kinder (the 1988 U.S. Olympic Trials decathlon champion) the reason for his success in the decathlon...born with six fingers...hobbies include guitar, song writing and hanging out with family and friends...grandfather served in the Army...member of Cadet Squadron 09. |
