    FRESHMAN YEAR | 2012-13: Did not compete for the majority of the season, while rehabbing from surgery (bilateral adductor tendon release and bilateral hernia repair) in the fall...participated once in the long jump at the Jack Christiansen Invitational.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Brentwood High School...won the national title in the pentathlon at the New Balance Indoor National Championships...two-time Tennessee state champion in the decathlon (2011, 2012)...also won the long jump at the 2012 TSSAA state championships and placed third in the triple jump...won the decathlon at the 2010 Junior Olympics.

    PERSONAL: Full name is James Kenneth Lazas...goes by Jake...son of Don and Kathy Lazas...father served in the Army...has two older brothers, Donnie and Kevin, and two older sisters, Katie and Laura...Kevin, who competes in the multi-events at the University of Arkansas, won the heptathlon title at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships...currently undecided on a major...future career plans include piloting either fighter jets or helicopters...considers high school coach Gary Kinder (the 1988 U.S. Olympic Trials decathlon champion) the reason for his success in the decathlon...born with six fingers...hobbies include guitar, song writing and hanging out with family and friends...grandfather served in the Army...member of Cadet Squadron 09.
