He also won the NCAA Regional meet in 2004. The 2002 Mountain West Conference champion in the outdoor pole vault, he never finished lower than third at any of the eight conference meets.

Once named the team's "Newcomer of the Year", Gensic capped off his career with the team's Most Valuable Player award. In addition, he claimed the "Alonzo Babers Performance Award" and the "Falcon Award for Spirit and Enthusiasm".

He has four brothers, including Sam (a videographer), Jake (a 2000 graduate of the Academy), Ben (a 2001 graduate of the Academy) and Matt (a senior decathlete on the team).

Gensic is joined by his brothers, Jake and Ben, on the Academy's all-time pole vault top-marks list, with three of the top seven indoor marks and three of the top eight outdoor marks. In addition, Matt is currently ranked sixth on the Academy's all-time heptathlon scoring list.
