Air Force places 29 on the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete team

The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference


SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014-15: Competed in the javelin during six meets, including the conference championships...recorded a career-best distance of 190’4” to finish second at the Jack Christiansen Invitational...earned the team’s Field Athlete of the Week award after that meet...added a top-three finish at the Air Force Twilight Open, placing third with a distance of 186’9”...improved career distance in the javelin by over 30 feet during the season...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013-14: Competed in six different events... recorded career-best distances in the discus (117'8" at the Jack Christiansen invitational) and javelin (169'1" at the Air Force Twilight Open) during the outdoor season...posted a personal-best long jump mark of 20'7¼" at the Ward Haylett Invitational...also competed in that event during the indoor season, posting a top mark of 20'2¼" at the Air Force Invitational...made only appearance of the season in the 60-meter hurdles (8.92) at that meet...recorded a career-best mark of 40'5½" at the Rocky Mountain Classic...academic all-conference selection...MW Scholar-Athlete.

HIGH SCHOOL: Brentwood High School...two-time Indoor Track and Field All-American in the pentathlon...finished second at the 2012 New Balance Indoor Nationals and fourth at the 2013 championships...also competed in the pentathlon at the 2011 New Balance Indoor Nationals, finishing 18th...finished second in the decathlon that year at the National Club Championships...2012 Tennessee AAA state champion in the pole vault...runner-up in the decathlon and pole vault at the 2011 state championship meet...set the BHS record in the pole vault...received the AP Scholar Award.

PERSONAL: Full name is Eric William Hoff...nicknames are "E" and "Sound"...son of Steve and Cathy Hoff...father was a member of the track and field team (400-meter hurdles) at the University of Minnesota...has two older siblings, Brian and Christie...also has one younger sister, Maddie...majoring in aeronautical engineering...future plans include becoming a pilot...hobbies include playing guitar and piano, spending time with friends and family and taking long walks on the beach...grandfather served in the Army...completed Operation Air Force at Beale AFB, Calif., over the summer...also served as an Element Leader during Basic Cadet Training...member of Cadet Squadron 11.
