Over 40 Falcons Earn MW Academic Honors

The track and field team accounted for 41 of Air Force's 69 academic all-conference selections.

SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2014-15: Competed in the pole vault 10 times...recorded a career-best 12’1½” during the indoor season...that clearance came during a runner-up finish at the Rocky Mountain Classic...posted an outdoor-best height of 11’7¾” to finish third at the Jack Christiansen Invitational...added top-three finishes at the Jerry Quiller Classic (second, 10’11¾”), New Mexico Quadrangular (third, 11’2¼”) and Air Force Twilight Open (third, 11’4½”)...academic all-conference selection.

FRESHMAN YEAR | 2013-14: Competed in the pole vault during 10 meets (six indoor, four outdoor)...recorded a career-best height of 10'11¾" at the Air Force Collegiate Open...earned a season-best finish (third) at the Rocky Mountain Classic (10'6")...claimed an outdoor-best clearance of 10'10¾" during a fifth-place performance at the Air Force Twilight Open...academic all-conference selection.

HIGH SCHOOL: Episcopal School of Jacksonville...won the Florida 2A pole vault title as a senior...two-time Milesplit US First-Team Elite (2012, 2011)...earned second-team distinction by Milesplit as a sophomore...served as team captain during both junior and senior seasons...also played soccer and competed on the cross country team...received the school’s Athletic Scholar Award...member of the National Junior Honor Society, the National Honor Society, National Latin Honor Society and the National Mathematics Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta)...named to the Head of School’s List every semester since seventh grade...named Magna Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam (2010)...received the Stanford Book Award, which is awarded to the top scholastic athlete of the junior class...also inducted into the Cum Laude Society, which is given to the top 10% of junior class.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Walter and Katherine Smithwick...has one younger sister, Elizabeth...majoring in political science...future plans include working in the intelligence field...has served as Wing Standardization/Evaluation NCO, PEER, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Clerk and Basic Cadet Training Element Leader...hobbies include ceramics, hiking, and hanging with friends...attended Tufts University during the 2012-13 academic year...completed Operation Air Force over the summer...also worked the first session of BCT and took leave...member of Cadet Squadron 31.
