SOPHOMORE (2011): Competed in shot put and weight throw during the indoor season...tossed a career-best 41'1¾" in the shot put at the Robert Shine Invitational...recorded a distance of 44'1½" in the weight throw at the Air Force Invitational...participated in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw during the outdoor season...recorded a personal-best distance of 36'0" in the shot put at the Colorado Invitational...also posted career-best marks in the discus throw (137'2") and hammer throw (137'1") at that meet. FRESHMAN (2010): Competed in the shot put and weight throw during the indoor season...tossed a personal-best 33'3" in the shot put at the Don Barrett Duals...posted a career-best 39'9¼" in the weight throw at the Robert Shine Invitational...participated in the shot put, discus throw and hammer throw during the outdoor season...recorded career-best outdoor shot distance of 34'6¾" at the Front Range Classic...added a career-best mark of 126'10" in the discus throw at that meet...posted a distance of 127'3" in the hammer throw at the Colorado Invitational. HIGH SCHOOL: Fremont High School...lettered in both cross country and track...Wendy's High School Heisman nomination...competed at the state meet in the discus throw as a senior...that was just his second year of throwing that event...graduated with a 4.0 GPA...four-year academic letterwinner...member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society...named to the "Who's Who Among American High School Students". PERSONAL: Full name is Shane Daniel Cox...nickname is "RoboCox", "Cox" and "Dragon"...son of Garry and Merry Cox...father attended West Point...has one older sister, Sara Beth Olson, a branch manager for First National Bank in Mitchell, S.D., and one older brother, Aaron, who attends Dakota Wesleyan University...majoring in meteorology...future plans include becoming a weather officer, combat weatherman or a meteorologist...served as Accountability Clerk and Security NCO......named to the Commandant's List for excellence in military performance...also named to the Dean's List...hobbies include sleeping, stand-up comedy, corn detasseling and sitting...spent the first summer session as evasion cadre during Combat Survival Training...also completed Operation Air Force at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., and took leave in South Dakota over the summer...would like to add that the "Nebraska Cornhuskers are the best team in college football"...received the Vice-Presidential nomination to West Point...both grandfathers are retired Army and Navy...member of Cadet Squadron 11. |
