USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - After becoming the first member of the women's track and field team to earn an individual championship title in a running event at an indoor conference meet, senior Annette Eichenberger was named the Air Force co-Athlete of the Week on Monday, March 3.
The senior easily won the qualifying round of competition in the 800-meter run on Friday, bettering the field by over one second (2:10.83) to earn an automatic spot in the finals. During Saturday's championship race, Eichenberger pulled away from the three-person lead pack on the back stretch to win the program's first individual title in a running event with a time of 2:10.68. The native of West Chicago, Ill., also competed in the mile relay that finished seventh and impacted the program's record book, with a converted 4x400-meter time of 3:51.30 ... a mark that is third on the program's all-time list.
Eichenberger was one of four champions for the Air Force track and field team at the MW Championships, which were held at the Academy's Cadet Field House on Feb. 27-March 1, joining sophomore Dylan Bell (co-pole vault), junior Zach Perkins (800-meter run) and junior Joey Uhle (co-pole vault). She shared the athletic department's weekly honor with Dominic Vallejo, one of the two WAC champions for the men's swimming and diving team.
