2017 Winter Airgun Championships got under way today

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – With more than 400 competitors vying for the top spots in USA Shooting’s Winter Airgun Championships (WAG), competition got under way (Dec. 1) at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Concluding day 1 of the men’s air rifle competitions, two Air Force marksmen are bringing home medals. Following the men’s air rifle final, junior Spencer Cap (Cranbury, NJ) earned the silver medal after finishing second. Sophomore Logan Ogden (Galway, NY) finished seventh in the men’s final. The pair qualified for the finals after finishing in the top eight of the air rifle match. Cap qualified with a 621.9, while Ogden had a 627.1.

The pair also qualified the men’s air rifle junior final by virtue of their same total scores. In the junior final, Ogden won the title with a score of 245.4 in the match to take home the gold medal. Cap finished in third place with a 223.1 and earned the bronze medal. Only the top eight shooters make it to the finals.

During the junior final, Ogden and Cap were vying for the top three positions, but in the end, it was Ogden who won the junior title, and Cap took home the bronze medal. In the last two shots of the final, Ogden had a 10.7, while his opponent hit a 10.5.

The WAG continues on Saturday, with the mixed-team event on Sunday.
