U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – (Nov. 13): This week’s Rifle Athlete of the Week is freshman Sarah Sawicki, CS19, (East Brunswick, N.J.). Sawicki led all shooters in the President’s Trophy Matches against sister academies Navy, Army and the U.S. Coast Guard on Saturday, Nov. 4, in Annapolis.
In the four-way match, Sawicki led all shooters in the air rifle, scoring a 97, 99 and four-straight 100 (400/400) in her last series of targets to finish with a 596 out of 600. She led all competitors with a final score of 1174 to help push Air Force to its fourth-straight team title (fifth overall).
“Sarah Sawicki also had a personal best in smallbore with a 578 and followed that up with an awesome performance in air rifle of 596!” said head coach Launi Meili. “She didn’t drop a shot on her last four targets (400 out of 400), which is an incredible feat of concentration, and something she was ready and waiting to do in a match. That pushed us over the top to win by 12 over Army, 14 over Navy, and more than 100 over the Coast Guard.”
Sawicki also led all air rifle competitors in the matches against the Virginia Military Institute’s mixed and women’s teams. On Sunday, Nov. 5, Sawicki scored a 594 in air rifle and had a 570 in smallbore, she finished with an aggregate 1164.
Sawicki was also named Lexus of Colorado Springs co-Cadet Athlete of the Week.
