11th-Ranked Falcons Go 1-2 in El Paso

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy rifle team went 1-2 in El Paso, Texas, against UTEP and the University of Nevada. The 11th-ranked Falcons compiled a team score of 4600 at the triangular match hosted by UTEP in El Paso, Texas on Sat. Oct. 27. No. 13 Nevada-Reno finished with the top team score of 4617. The No. 20-ranked UTEP rifle team shot a season-high 4498. On Sunday, Oct. 28, the Falcons shot a match against the Wolf Pack hosted by UTEP. The Falcons lost the match 4622-4626. Air Force is now 5-3 for the season.

    On the line for Air Force in Saturday's matches, the smallbore squad of Tyler Rico (562), Meredith Carpentier (578), Kyle Jameson (569) and Benjamin York (570) scored 2279 points. Carpentier was the overall high scorer in the smallbore match. Her score was a season high. Also shooting in the smallbore match was Matthew Kluckman with a 576, Craig O'Daniel (574), Kevyn Stinett (571) and David Higgins (560).

    The air rifle squad of Rico (583), Carpentier (580), Stinett (579) and O'Daniel (579) tallied 2321 points for the team aggregate 4600. Also shooting air rifle on Saturday, were Jameson who shot a 568 and Higgins who finished the day with a 576. Kluckman had a 574, while York scored a 583.

    In Sunday's air rifle match against the Wolf Pack, the Falcons lost by only four points (4622-4626). Carpentier, with another season high, was the air rifle overall high shooter with 588 points. The four-person squad was Carpentier, Rico (586), O'Daniel (582) and York (581) compiled 2337 points. Also shooting the air rifle were Stinett (577), Higgins (573), Kluckman (566) and Jameson (563).

     

     

    The Air Force shooters in smallbore were Carpentier with a 575, Kluckman had a 574, York (574), Rico (572), Jameson (570), Stinett (568), Higgins (565) and O'Daniel (546). The smallbore squad of Carpentier, Rico, Jameson and Stinett tallied 2285 points for the team aggregate 4622.

    Shooting career-best scores this weekend were the following: York with an aggregate 1155 against Reno. O'Daniel had an 1153 in the UTEP/Reno match. Kluckman also had a career best in the triangular with 1150 points. Finally Carpentier scored a career-best 1163 against Reno.

    The rifle team hosts the All-Service Academies Match on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4 at the USAFA Rifle Range. The Falcons look to take advantage of the home range and improving their 2012 second place team finish.
