Meredith Carpentier paces Falcons with best aggregate vs. UTEP Miners

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Meredith Carpentier had the best aggregate 1,175 (595-580) in today's rifle match against UTEP in El Paso, Texas, while the Air Force rifle team had the best season opener in school history under the leadership of Head coach Launi Meili, now in her sixth year at Air Force.

    The air rifle team posted its first-highest score (2,353) to start the 2013-14 NCAA rifle season off on a high note. In the smallbore, the Falcons turned in another high score (2,299) for the official winning team score of 4,652, 116 points higher than their opponent, the UTEP Miners (4,536). The team score is a best-record season opener for the Falcons.

    Carpentier led Air Force with a 595 in air rifle, firing three solid 100s, a 97 and two 99s for her final score. Kevyn Stinett backed up her teammate with a perfect 590, which ranked her in second place.

    Tyler Rico came in with a 586 (third), followed by David Higgins (fifth) with a 582. Craig O'Daniel finished with a 574 in eighth place.

    Freshmen Noah Kwock scored a 578 (7th), Mary Simonton (10th) and Ryan Jacobs (11th) had tied scores of 570 each.

    The Falcons combine air rifle squad finished with an aggregate 4,645. Air Force posted an NCAA official air rifle team score of 2,353.

     

     

    In smallbore, Carpentier led the field as she finished with the high score of 580. The Air Force squad maintained the lead as Higgins followed with a 578, Jacobs scored of 571 and Rico and Stinett both had tied scores of 570.

    O'Daniel followed up with a 569 (6th), Simonton had a 554 (10th) and Kwock pulled in a 546 (11th).

    The combined smallbore squad aggregate was 4,538 points. The Falcons posted an NCAA official smallbore team score of 2,299.

    The Falcons will compete with the Miners in another match on Sunday, Oct. 20, in El Paso.
