U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – Oct. 17, 2017: This week’s Air Force Academy Rifle Athlete of the Week is junior Anna Weilbacher (Leona Valley, Calif.).
Weilbacher was the Falcons’ top shooter overall in both matches held in Fairbanks, Alaska, on Oct. 13 and 15. The No. 5 Alaska was host to No. 6 Air Force and No. 7 Ohio State.
On Friday, against the two Patriot Rifle Conference opponents, Weilbacher finished ranked fourth among the top 10 individual shooters in the event, and just seven points below the No. 1 shooter. In the air rifle match, the junior shooter had three perfect series, scoring a 100, 98, 100, 99, 100, and 98 to finish with 595 points. In the smallbore match, she scored the team’s top score (579) and finished the day with an 1174, the team’s highest aggregate.
On Sunday, she once again finished with the Falcons’ highest scores in both rifles. She posted a smallbore of 580 and had the high aggregate (1168) with her near perfect air rifle series of 94, 99, 99, 99, 98, and 99 (588). Her total score landed her in the No. 2 position on the top 10 individual ranking against Alaska.
This is Weilbacher’s second rifle athlete of the week honor of her career (Jan. 25, 2016).
