Air Force junior Meredith Carpentier to be honored as one of Colorado's Outstanding Female Athletes

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Air Force junior Meredith Carpentier (Waukegan, Ill.) (Rifle) received the honor of becoming one of Colorado's Outstanding Female Athletes. Carpenter joins a long list of outstanding female athletes from Colorado selected as the 2014 Award Winners for their performance in 2013 as named by Sportswomen of Colorado. Colorado's outstanding female athletes will be honored during Sportswomen of Colorado's 40th annual awards celebration on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center.

During 2013, Carpentier became a Junior Olympic champion. In December, she fired the highest collegiate score (1239) at the 2013 USA Shooting Winter Air Gun Championships and was the women's air rifle champion on the final day. During the event, she earned three gold medals and two bronze medals. For her achievements, she earned a place to represent the United States at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany, in January 2014. On day one, she finished as the top-ranked American woman in the competition (26th); day two, she was 58th among 88 international top shooters. She also earned a place to compete in the USA World Cup at Fort Benning, Ga., in March. She is a member of the U.S. Shooting Team and is a 2016 Olympic Team hopeful.

She currently serves as the Air Force rifle team captain (CS35). Her past team accomplishments include two-time All-American (air rifle and smallbore), a top 5 ranking in scoring average in the nation, and selected as the Air Force athletics athlete of the week several times for her individual success in competitions.
