AIR FORCE RIFLE TEAM BEATS UTEP 4644-4483

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Academy's rifle team, now 18-3, beat UTEP, 4644-4483, on Saturday, Feb. 9, in the final home match of the season. The Falcons' small bore squad totaled 2309 points, while the air rifle team finished with 2335 points. Sophomore Meredith Carpentier (Waukegan, Ill.) was the highest scorer overall in air rifle with a 591/600. Freshman Kevyn Stinett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the top shooter in the small bore with 583/600 points.
Team highlights included Tyler Rico in small bore with a solid 200 in prone, he add a 181 in standing and 191 in kneeling to finish with 572 points. Carpentier was the runner up in small bore with 582 points; she scored 199 in prone, 190 in standing and 193 in kneeling. In air rifle, the Falcons took the top four spots with Carpentier's 591, David Higgins' 586, Rico's 585 and Matt Kluckman who had a 583/600.
UTEP's top shooters were Hannah Muegge with 576 points in small bore and Korina Rodriguez with 582 points in the air rifle. The UTEP small bore team had 2203 points, while the air rifle team had 2280 points (4483).
The rifle team will be in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, Feb. 16 for the NCAA Qualifier match against TCU. Following the national qualifiers, teams and individual selections to the NCAA Championships will be made on Feb. 21.
