Rifle team goes 4638-4616 vs. Akron and finishes fourth in PRC Smallbore

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Air Force competed in a rifle match against the University of Akron on Friday in Ohio. The Air Force rifle team won the match, 4638-4616. Air Force outscored the Zips 2304-2289 in smallbore and 2334-2327 in the air rifle. The win against Akron gives Air Force a 7-5 season record going into the Patriot Rifle Conference play, which began on Saturday, Feb. 8-9 at Ohio State in Columbus.

On Saturday at the PRC Smallbore Championships, Alaska-Fairbanks was the team leader with 2339 points followed by TCU 2nd (2306), OSU 3rd (2305), Air Force 4th (2303) and Nevada-Reno 5th (2260).

In Friday's match against Akron, AFA's David Higgins finished with the team's highest aggregate with an 1166 with scores of a 583 in both smallbore and the air rifle. Meredith Carpentier finished with a total of 1163 points after scoring a 579 in smallbore and a 584 in air rifle. Kevyn Stinett had the team's highest air rifle score with a 586. She had a 579 in smallbore (1151), while Ryan Jacobs finished the matches with a 572 smallbore and a 581 in air rifle (1153).

In Saturday's PRC smallbore matches, Higgins finished with a 581 followed by Carpentier who had a 575. Jacobs finished with a 574 while Rico scored a 573 and Stinett finished with a 558. The high score of the match was a 588 fired by Alaska's Tim Sherry.

The PRC continues on Sunday, Feb. 9 with the air rifle competitions.
