Air Force rifle team wins first round of open matches against The Citadel

    U.S Air Force Academy, Colo. - Jan. 29: The Air Force Academy rifle team won the first round of competition against The Citadel rifle team at The Citadel Marksmanship Center on Saturday. Competing against both the Bulldog's men's and women's teams, Air Force won 4607-4462-4174, respectively.

    In the NCAA open match, the Falcons had a strong hold on their opponents in both the smallbore and air rifle matches. The Falcons led in smallbore 2269 and 2338 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 4607.

    In the air rifle matches, the Falcons' Robert Vasquez (588), Tom Chandler (584), Mike Seery 583) and Pat Everson (583) had the top four scores overall. In smallbore, Chandler took the number one position with 575 points. The Citadel's Winston Dorian took second with a score of 569 and then it was the Falcons with the next five places.

    Air Force is 7-4 going into day two of the open match against the Bulldogs on Sunday, Jan. 30.
