Air Force loses two to Nebraska but sets a new rifle team record

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Air Force rifle team lost two rifle matches in Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to the University of Nebraska. On Saturday, the rifle team lost to No. 8 Nebraska 4,685-4,629.

    Air Force's Kevyn Stinett and David Higgins were the team's top finishers in both the air rifle and smallbore matches. Stinett and Higgins each shot a 586 in air rifle. In the smallbore, they both shot a 578. Higgins had a 199 in the prone, scoring a 99 and 100, consecutively.

    Freshman Ryan Jacobs also shot a 578 for Air Force. The Flacons' final smallbore score was 2,309. The team finished with an air rifle score of 2,320.

    On Sunday, the two teams shot another match, and the Air Force team scored 4,671, just 8 points shy of Nebraska's winning score of 4,679. The team score is a new team record for Air Force. The Huskers won the air rifle match 2,359-2,339, but the Falcons' smallbore team was the victors with a score of 2,332-2,320.

    Stinett had the Falcons' high score in air rifle with a 588. Higgins and Tyler Rico finished with a 585 each. In smallbore, it was Jacobs with the team high-score of 585. Higgins scored double 100s in the prone and finished with a total of 584 points.
