Rifle team finishes strong in Charleston, S.C.

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The No. 9 Air Force rifle team improved to 11-8 following a head-to-head win against The Citadel Bulldogs, the Virginia Military Institute, and the two school's women's teams in Charleston, S.C., on Jan. 27.


The Falcons beat host school, The Citadel, by 121 points.  Air Force finished 4680, The Citadel 4559, VMI 4468, VMI Women 4414 and The Citadel Women 4195.  Air Force's score is a season high for the team.


Junior Anna Weilbacher led all shooters in both guns, she had a 581 in small bore and 594 in air rifle.  Freshman Sarah Sawicki also had a personal best 596 in air rifle.


The Falcons held the top seven positions in the smallbore match, while the rifle team ranked in the top five. 


Ranked in the top 10 individual standings were: Weilbacher 1175, Logan Ogden 1173, Spencer Cap 1165, Sawicki 1162, Nick Learn 1158 and Spencer Brandon 1156.  Nate Peterson ranked eighth and Mary Maystrovich was ranked 10th.




The Falcons shoot another match on Sunday against the Bulldogs' men's and women's teams.
