McElwee has the highest finish among AFA Fencers at D1 NAC

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Dec. 16, 2013: Several Air Force fencers competed in the 2013 North American Cup Division 1 in Dallas, Texas. Fencer Mary McElwee had the highest finish among the Air Force members with a seventh place in women's foil among 98 highly competitive fencers from around the country. Alexander Chiang finished 25th among 157 in the men's foil competition. Competing in one of the largest groups, James Salem finished 78th among 254 in men's epee.

    In D1 men's epee, Salem was the #94 seed and his pool stats included 5 victories, .83 victory margin, 24 touches scored, 17 touches received and a +7 indicator. Salem advanced to the top 128 where he lost 10-9 to his opponent. Men's epee boasted 37 pools.

    In D1 men's foil, Chiang advanced through the pools until eventually losing to his opponent, Race Imboden from New York, 15-14, in the top 32. Chiang's pool stats included 5 victories, a .83 victory margin, 25 TS, 18 TR and a +7 indicator.

    In D1 women's foil, McElwee advanced to the top 8 in her pools earning an 11-7, 15-1 and 14-11 victories. Her fight to advance to the semis ended with a 15-8 defeat to Margaret Lu from Connecticut.
