FENCERS CLOSE OUT FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON AT THE NAC IN MILWAUKEE

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Academy's fencing team closed out the first half of the fencing season at the Division I and II North American Cup (NAC) tournament in Milwaukee, Wis., this past weekend Dec. 7-10. Top performers on the team were Nathan Sorensen and Dalton Boatright in men's epee and Alexander Chiang in men's foil.

    Sorensen placed 12th in the field of 197 in Division I epee, which was just two places below 2012 Olympian, Seth Kelsey the No. 10 finisher. In Division II, Boatright placed eighth among 53 fencers, which earned him his C2012 rating in the U.S. Fencing Association. Chiang placed 21st in Division I foil among the field 114 competitors.

    In women's Division II epee, Jessica Steuber finished 33rd among the 68 fencers in the competition. Allison Egan competed in Division II saber and finished 36th in the field of 39. Mary McElwee placed 32nd in the field of 85 in Division I foil.

    For the remaining Academy competitors, in Division I epee, James Salem tied at 138th. In saber, Adam Marcinkowski placed 54th/100 and Ryan Redhead finished in 90th place.

    The fencers are off until after finals and the semester break. They open in 2013 with the first of the collegiate competitions, the Western Invitational on Jan. 12 in California, and the remaining NAC competitions.
