U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Air Force fencers competed in the North American Cup (NAC) in Baltimore, Md., Dec. 4-7. Lauren Sides, Alyssa Hofilena, Ryan Andrieux and Cameron Sullivan were the team's top finishers in their respective events.
On Monday, Dec. 7, Sides finished eighth overall in Division II women's saber. Sides, who was seeded 36, advanced to the top 8 with bout victories of 15-1, 15-13, 15-9 before being eliminated 15-8. Sides earned her C2015 U.S. Fencing Association rating.
In Saturday's, Division II men's saber championship, Andrieux finished 28th in the field of 111 competitors. Andrieux was 4-2 in pools and with his four victories earned a .67 victory margin, with 26 touches scored and 17 received; his indicator was a +9. He advanced to table 32 by defeating his opponents 15-13, 15-13, but lost 15-13 in the top 32. Finishing 28th is Andrieux's career best in the NAC.
Also on Saturday, Hofilena finished 19th overall among 95 fencers in Division I women's saber. She had a 5-1 pool record, earning her a .83 victory margin, 25 touches scored and 14 received with a +11 indicator. Hofilena won a 15-6 bout and advanced to the next table where she lost 15-9.
In Division I men's epee, Sullivan competed among 226 top fencers and finished 73rd overall. Sullivan went 5-1 in pools with a .83 victory margin, 25 touches scored and 14 received and a +11 indicator. He lost in table 128, 15-6.
Also competing was Lydia Kim in DII women's saber. She finished 45th among 60 competitors. James Salem competed in DI men's epee and finished 177th. In DII women's foil, Nicole Quattrociocchi finished 53rd, Waverly Hock finished 62nd and Elianna Ryan finished 74th. Quattrociocchi also competed in DI women's foil and finished 110th. Schaeffer McHenry finished 91st in DII women's epee, followed by Jackie Orcutt who finished 95th and Sara Cook who finished 97th.
The fencers will open 2016 in January with the Division I and Junior NAC in St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 8-11. The Western Invitational is in San Diego, Calif., Jan. 16-17. The Northwestern Invitational is Jan. 30-31 in Evanston, Ill.
