Air Force Academy

The Air Force fencing team posted a 4-1 record against the Army Black Knights and a 1-0 against the women's epee squad from the Royal Military College on Sunday, Nov. 14 at the USAFA Cadet Gymnasium.

In the opening match, the Falcons' women's epee team of Brynn Thoreson, Charity Day, Eliza Enyart and Lydia Bigelow outscored the team from the Royal Military College, 45-38. At the start of match, Enyart beat RMC's team captain Nadia Shields 5-1. In the second bout, Thoreson fenced Sarah McRae, an exchange student from RMC, but mid-way through the bout, McRae suffered an injury that would keep her out of the remaining competition. Jeni Hoover continued the bout, scoring four to Thoreson's two touches. Enyart beat Hoover, 5-2, in the ninth bout and Air Force won the match 45-38. In the match against Army, the Falcons won 45-30 with Air Force winning six of the nine bouts. Under USA Fencing rules, team wins and losses are based on the nine-bout cumulative scores.

AFA's women's foil squad of Erin Woodside, Monica Herrera and Ebony Cook put Army's Banach, Moos and Farrant through their paces. The Falcons won 45-30. The men's foil team lost to Army, 45-34. AFA's Nate Smith won three bouts against Army's Jeff Agnew, David Veney, and Charlie Shin. AFA's Kent Morgan and Julio Gamez lost three each to Army.

Air Force's women's saber squad of Katie Gulczynski, Alison Freiman and Marisa Romero won 45-41. The men's saber team also won 45-25. The team of Pappy Oboho, Sam Bartron and Joshua Trice each scored five touches for an exact cumulative score.

In the U.S. Military Championships, AFA fencers Jackson Raines (epee), Enyart (epee), Smith (foil), Cook (foil) and Bartron (saber) were the first-place finishers. Jason Stockdale (epee), Charity Day (epee), Herrera (foil) and Romero (saber) all took second place. Two AFA fencers took third place Woodside (foil) and Freiman (saber).
