Update on North American Cup Results

Update: Air Force Academy fencers sophomores Eliza Enyart (women's epee) and Adam Schenk; freshmen Dale Hargis and Kai Anthony (men's epee); sophomore Trent Atwood (men's foil); sophomores Mryamn Ruth, Kara Thoreson and Collette Bannister (women's foil) and freshman Nick Bente (men's sabre) gained valuable experience in the NAC "B" Juniors competition held in Albuquerque, N.M., Nov. 11-13.

Enyart was the only Air Force woman to finish in the top 20. Enyart finished 19th of 116 in epee. Bente also finished in the top 50, placing 41st in the 150-men's sabre tournament.

"Eliza and Nick both had good finishes making it into the top 50 of the tournament this weekend," said Head coach Abdel Salem.

Schenk, a native of Hastings, Minn., finished 67th out of 211 competitors in men's epee. Hargis and Kai followed in 73rd and 74th place, respectively. In men's foil, Atwood of Mahwah, N.J., placed 98th of 225 fencers. This tournament was the first of several NACs for the freshmen.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Air Force women did not fare as well as the men. Ruth, Thoreson and Bannister finished low in the 143-competitor women's foil division. Ruth finished 138th followed by Thoreson's 142nd-place finish and Bannister who finished 143rd.

While most of Falcons' squad did not finish as high as Salem would have liked, the fencers did gain valuable experience.

On Nov. 19-2, the Falcons will travel to Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill, to compete in the first of two NCAA dual meets.
