Air Force competes in the November NAC

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo.: Air Force fencers competed in the four-day highly competitive North American Cup Division 1 & Junior tournaments in Cleveland, Ohio, Nov. 8-11. Air Force's top competitors in their events were Alexander Chiang, Matthew Bergstedt, Mary McElwee and Madeleine Girardot.

    In Monday's Division 1 foil field of 192 men, Chiang, with a 5-1 pool record, finished 39th overall.

    Bergstedt, who had a 4-2 pool record, finished 75th among 143 fencers in the junior men's saber tournament.

    On Sunday, both Mary McElwee and Madeleine Girardot advanced to the top 32 in the junior women's foil rounds. In their bouts, McElwee fell to her opponent 7-15 to finish 24th among the 128 competitors. Girardot was also defeated, 7-15, she finished 25th among the 128.

    In Division 1 men's epee, Alexander Pollack finished 274th among the highly competitive field of 310 fencers, while Elias Johnson finished tied for 223rd.

    On Saturday, Emerson Woerner placed 142 among 178 fencers in Division 1 men's saber and Bergstedt finished tied in 152nd place.

    On Friday, Pollack and Johnson both competed in the 206 competitor junior men's epee tournament. Pollack finished tied at 182 place and Johnson finished in 129th place.

     

     

    In Division 1 women's foil, Girardot finished 28th and McElwee finished 79th out of the field of 127 women.

    The Air Force fencing team will be at home until Dec. 8 when they travel to the Brandeis Invitational in Waltham, Mass., vs. Brandeis, Yale, St. John's, Columbia, SHU and Cornell (w).
