Fencers Finished High at NACs

Three Air Force Academy's fencers finished at the top of their events at the North American Cup (NAC) Junior Tournament in Kansas City, Mo., this past weekend. Tied for third place were Nathan Sorensen in men's epee and Heather Nelson in the women's saber. Simone Barrette finished ninth in women's epee. Fencing in men's saber, AFA's Scott Pippin tied for 107 in the field of 157 saberists.

Over 1,250 fencers competed in the second tournament of the 2009-10 North American Cup season, which concluded on Monday, Nov. 9. The men's epee competition fielded over 190 competitors, while 88 women competed in the junior saber event. Women's epee fielded over 142 competitors.

Following the Thanksgiving break, the fencing team will return to NAC competition at the NAC C Division 1 tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa., Dec. 4-6.
