Fencers Conclude Day One of the New Mexico Open

    Santa Fe, N.M. - The Air Force Academy fencers concluded day one of the New Mexico Open, Academy fencers placed in the top three of their respective events on Saturday, Oct. 20. AFA's Scott Pippin won the senior mixed saber event and Desirae Ionata won the senior women's saber competition.

    Other top AFA fencers were Adam Marcinkowski, who placed second in the mixed saber event, followed by Matthew Bergstedt who tied for third place. In women's saber, Vianca Torres finished second, while Allison Egan and Leila AbdulRazaq tied for third place. In the senior mixed foil competition, Mary McElwee finished in second place.

    Also fencing in the mixed saber competition were Ionata who finished 11th. Allison Egan also competed and finished in 13th place, Torres and Stephanie Sarabia finished in tied for 17th and 19th place, respectively.

    In women's saber, Sarabia finished in seventh place. Also, in mixed foil, Daniel Johnson, John Scowcroft and Joshua Hayden finished 12th-14th, respectively. Dakota Bottomlee finished in 16th place.

     

     

    Finally, in women's epee, Olivia Prosseda finished in fifth place, while Jessica Steuber placed seventh.

    The New Mexico Open continues on Sunday, Oct. 21.
