Fencers Competed in First North American Cup of the Season

    The Air Force Academy fencers competed in Des Moines, Iowa, this past weekend at the North American Cup (NAC) which kicked of the NAC tournament season. Over 900 fencers competed in the tournament that is part of a series of sanctioned U.S. Fencing Association events providing fencers across the world the opportunity to compete in men's and women's epee, foil and sabre to earn ranking points. On Oct. 9-12, several Academy fencers competed in the Division 2 and Division 3 tournaments.

    In Division 2 women's epee, 79 women competed. AFA fencer Jennifer Nolta finished 50th and Kaitlyn Bogan finished 78th. In women's foil, CJ Jung finished 81st among the field of 97. William Hock tied for 71st place in the men's foil pack of 97. Four Falcons placed in the field of 95 men's saber; Geoffrey Pamerleau finished 30th, Brent Lavey finished 60th, Edward Wong finished 62nd and Scott Pippin finished 71st.

    In Division 3 men's epee, Mister Jackson finished 19th in the pack of 104 competitors. Hocks finished in 19th place in the field of 81 men's foil competitors. In saber, Pamerleau finished 19th, Pippin 27th, Lavey 45th and Wong finished 62nd in the field of 84. Jung tied for 86th place in the field of 89 in women's foil, while Amanda Terry finished 40th in the pack of 60 in women's saber.

     

     

    The fencers will host the annual Falcon Open on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25, at the Cadet Gymnasium. The event is open to the public and begins at 10 a.m.
