Air Force Fencers will compete in NAC Division II
Oct. 10, 2003 Head Coach Abdel Salem and four Academy fencers will travel to Overland Park, Kansas to compete in the North American Cup Division II competition, Oct. 12-13. C1Cs Sean Blas and Curtis Marshall, along with C2C Marisa Romero and Teresa Moreno will compete at the Overland Park Convention Center. "This is a good competition for our fencers," Salem said. "It will give them some good experience and a chance to improve their rating in the U.S. Fencing Association." In men's sabre, Blas from El Paso, Texas, is the men's team co-captain. Joining him are Romero and Moreno in women's sabre. The men's sabre event will start at noon on Monday, Oct. 13. Romero, also from Texas (Allen) was the second-place finisher in the 2003 Western Region Championships and an NCAA qualifier, finishing 23rd. In September 2003, Moreno, from Chicago, Ill., finished 53rd in sabre at the Nick Toth Open. The women's sabre event starts at noon on Sunday, Oct. 12. Marshall is also team co-captain and will fence men's epee. The event will start at 2 p.m. Oct. 12. Marshall was the 10th-place finisher at the NAC Division III meet in Orlando last year. On Oct. 25-26, the team will compete in the New Mexico Open, Santa Fe, N.M. North American Cup Div. II schedule: Women's Sabre - Sunday, Oct. 12 - Noon Men's Epee - Sunday, Oct. 12 - 2 p.m.
