Air Force Fencers Finish Competition at Summer Nationals

Two Air Force Academy fencers competed at the 2010 U.S. Summer National Championships in Atlanta, Ga., July 4-13. Sophomore Heather Nelson competed in the Under-19 Women's Saber event on July 7, placing 3rd out of 73 competitors. Junior Simone Barrette fenced in the Division 1 Women's Epee competition on July 6, placing 32nd out of 58 competitors.

"It was a pleasure watching Heather fence through several tough bouts," said Coach Abdel Salem. "She fought hard and smart. I know she wants to make the U.S. Junior Team, which will require a lot of hard work, intense practice and discipline. We will focus on her goal this year."
