Fencing team placed 14th in NCAAs, Hofilena named NCAA All-American

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Following four days of competition at the 2014 NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championships competition in Columbus, Ohio on March 20-23, Air Force finished 14th in team standings with 39 total points.

    Air Force freshman Alyssa Hofilena was the team's top finisher in the championships. With 11 victories (.478), 91 touches scored, 89 touches received and a +2 indicator, Hofilena finished in 11th place in women's saber and earned NCAA All-American honorable mention honors.

    Foil results: Junior Alexander Chiang finished in 17th place in foil. Sophomores Mary McElwee finished 18th and Madeleine Girardot finished in 21st place.

    Sabre results: Sophomore Ryan Redhead finished 22nd. Hofilena finished 11th in women's saber.

    What's up next: Nine team members will get ready for the 2014 DVI National Championships & April NAC (DV2), April 11, 2014 in Minneapolis, MN.
