Air Force Academy fencers senior Phillip Choy, sophomore Chase Houser and freshman Alexander Chiang will make the trip to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the NCAA Men's Fencing Championships, March 22-25, 2012.
This is the first time for the trio representing the Falcons at the NCAAs. Chiang, who earned an at-large selection, finished fourth in men's foil at the West Region Championships, March 10 at Stanford. At regionals, Choy was the foil runner up and Houser won the men's epee title.
2012 is the first time in four years that Air Force did not have a woman qualify for NCAAs.
Qualification for the 2012 NCAA Championships is based on a formula combination of Fencer Seed Factor/FSF (40%; from regular-season dual meets) and Regional finish (60%). The West Region has two automatic berths to the 2012 NCAA Championships in every weapon except men's epee (3). There is a maximum of two entries per school in each weapon. NCAA bids became official on March 13.
