Air Force Academy

The Air Force Academy fencing team competed in the 2007 NCAA West Region Tournament this past weekend at UC San Diego. Top honors went to AFA's junior Eliza Enyart for finishing first in women's epee. The Falcons finished in the West Region with several fencers placing in the top 10 of their respective events.

The Falcons' top fencers in the men's events were Kai Anthony (3rd), freshman Peter French (4th) and senior Sean Andrews (5th) in epee. In men's sabre, Michael O'Connor (3rd), Alexander Brand (5th) and CJ Baran finished sixth. Senior Nathan Smith was the only Falcon to place in men's foil, he finished fourth.

The women's team did well in their respective events. The Falcons were led by Enyart's first-place finish, Sr. Lydia Bigelow who finished seventh and Jr. Brynn Thoreson's 10th-place finish in epee. In sabre, Crystal Yang was AFA's fifth-place finisher followed by Angelica Plazas who finished eighth. Collette Bannister finished sixth followed by seventh-place finisher Mryamn Ruth.

Individuals on AFA's men's and women's fencing teams will find out Tuesday about which participants will be included at the NCAA Championships in New Jersey, March 22-25.
