Air Force fencers get ready for the NCAA West Regionals

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Air Force fencing team travels to Pasadena this weekend to compete in the NCAA West Regional Championships. This Saturday, March 8, Caltech is hosting the NCAA Fencing West Regional at the Braun Gym. Team competitors are Air Force, Caltech, Stanford and UC San Diego.

This Tournament determines the West Regional top fencers and the NCAA use the results for selection to the NCAA National Championship. This is not an open tournament, and a fencer must be qualified by his/her institution.

Air Force qualifiers are women's epee: Rachel Evans, women's foil: Madeline Girardot, Waverly Hock and Mary McElwee, women's saber: Alyssa Hofilena. Men's epee: Robert Chado, Elias Johnson and James Salem, men's foil: Alexander Chiang, men's saber: Matthew Bergstedt, Emiliano Kaptain, Ryan Redhead and Emerson Woerner.

There is no cost to attend the event. The event begins at 9:00 a.m.
