Air Force Fencers Travel To San Diego for NCAA Western Regional Championships
Feb. 28, 2003 The 2003 NCAA Fencing Western Regional Championships will take place in San Diego, Calif., March 1. UC San Diego is the host for this event at UCSD's RIMAC Arena. Participants for the Western Regional include Air Force, Stanford, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Tech and UC San Diego. The meet gets underway at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Air Force, the defending 2002 champions, will go up against Stanford at 10:45 a.m., UCSD at 12:00 p.m., Cal Tech at 1:15 p.m. and Cal State Fullerton at 2:30 p.m. The Falcons have had several successes throughout the season and are 10-1 (men) and 9-5 (women) in dual bouts thus far. "I am confident that our fencers will do well in the regionals," Head coach Abdel Salem said. The regional meet plays a large role for both team and individual qualifications to nationals.
