Lyon Coupe de Monde 2013: USAFA fencing was again at the heart of international competition this weekend as Head Coach Abdel Salem accompanied a qualifying cadet to the last Junior world cup of the season, in Lyon France.
Freshman foilist Mary McElwee placed 44th after the intense pool round, but in the longer direct elimination bouts dispatched higher ranking fencers occupying places #19 and #14. McElwee ended Saturday second highest of the nine US qualifying participants, in the prized ladder of 16, and brought Air Force eight international points and plenty of recognition at the event.
"Our fencers make mistakes that we are working on, but we can learn from the tape, with detail of the blade actions," said Salem.
