Two Fencers Take Top 8 in NAC, South Bend
Jan. 24, 2002 Last week members of the Academy's fencing team traveled to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the North American Cup. The event's highlights included the top eight finish in Division I by Weston Kelsey (8th place) in men's epee, and Ryan Dunn who placed eighth in the under 20 division in the Junior men's foil competition. Dunn also placed 55th in Division I men's foil. Also in Division I men's foil were Chris Jones (112th) and Sean Recame (136th). In the sabre competition, Eric Lathrop tied for 85th, while teammate Jared Parks placed 104th. Anthony Pryor finished 129th and Curtis Marshall finished 121st. Elia Burrill tied for 33rd place in women's epee. On Jan. 27, the Falcons will fence a dual versus NYU, St. John's, Yale and Columbia University in New York City.
In February, Air Force will host Duke, Stanford, Notre Dame, Fullerton, Northwestern and U.C. San Diego. Air Force and Duke will fence on Friday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. in the Cadet Gymnasium (west gym). The rest of the tournament will take place on Saturday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 3.
The first match will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday with Air Force vs. Northwestern, Notre Dame vs. San Diego, Fullerton vs. Duke. Admission is free.
