FENCING TEAM HAS STRONG PERFORMANCES AT SEASON OPENER

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The Air Force Academy's fencing team started the season off having several strong performances going 5-4 at the Western Invitational on Jan. 12. Overall, the Falcons finished 5-4 with the women's team recording a 3-2 victory and the men's team going 2-2 in the match. The NCAA event featured teams from Northwestern, Stanford, UC San Diego and Air Force.


    At the season opener at the California Institute of Technology on Saturday, the Falcons' top performers were Mary McElwee with a 5-0 record in women's foil and Emiliano Kaptain who was 4-0 in his men's saber bouts.


    The women's foil team amassed a 6-3 victory against nationally-ranked Stanford and a 24-3 victory against Caltech.
