AFA will send four fencers to NACs in Houston

Air Force Academy fencers junior Jason Stockdale, seniors Jackson Ranes, Tim French and Sam Bartron will travel to Houston, Texas to compete in the North American Cup tournament, Jan. 13-16. The NAC competition in Houston draws many of Colorado's top fencers, including Nicholas Chinman from the Northern Colorado Fencing Club and former Air Force Academy fencer and the No. 1-ranked men's epee fencer, Weston Kelsey. The venue for the tournament is the George R. Brown Community Center.

"This NAC draws a high level of this country's top competitors and I expect our fencers should do well in Houston," said head coach Abdel Salem.

This is the first NAC tournament of the 2005-06 season for French and Bartron. Stockdale and Ranes have one NAC under their belts. In December, at the Pittsburg NAC competition, Stockdale finished 25th and Ranes finished 34th of 199 men's epee competitors.

"All four fencers have been our team leaders throughout the season and should finish in the top 25 of their events," added Salem. "Every competition, every NAC tournament we compete in is a prelude to the regional and national championships."

In February, the team will travel to San Diego to compete against the Western Region teams of UC San Diego, Stanford, Cal State Fullerton and Caltech, and Notre Dame.

The NAC schedule of events is as follows:
