Air Force Fencing Competes at Junior Olympics

Air Force fencing sent four fencers to the 2018 Junior Olympics, held Feb. 16-19, at the Memphis Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tenn. Sophomores Helen Landwehr and Allison Wong and freshmen Kaitlyn Guo and Mackenside Nechanicky competed for the Falcons.

Landwehr had Air Force’s top finish, placing 31st in the Junior women’s epee. Landwehr went 4-2 in pool competition to advance to the elimination round. She went 3-1 in the elimination rounds, getting eliminated in the round of 32.

Wong, Nechanicky and Guo all competed in the Junior women’s foil Wong led the way with 63rd place finish. The sophomore had a pair of wins in the elimination round before getting eliminated in the group of 64. Nechanicky followed in 71st. The freshman went 5-1 in pool competition to advance to the next round. Guo finished 122nd in the Junior women’s foil.

Air Force returns to action at the NCAA Regionals March 9-11 in Pasadena, Calif.
