Update: The Academy's fencing team had a strong finish following two days of action with a combined 12-8 record at the Notre Dame Duals. The men finished 7-3 and the women finished 5-5. In the individual weapons category, the men's and women's epee teams had a combine 12-8 record and the foil teams posted a 12-8 record, while the saberists had a combined 11-9 record overall.

Following the first day of the competition, the men were 3-3, defeating Detroit (21-6), Lawrence (26-1), UC San Diego (16-11). Losses came against Stanford (15-12), Notre Dame (18-9) and Ohio State (20-7). The Air Force women's team (2-3) defeated Oberlin (22-5), Detroit (20-7). Their losses were to UC San Diego (22-5), Notre Dame (23-4) and Stanford (15-12).

On day 2, the men finished 4-0, defeating Northwestern (18-9), Florida (20-7), Wayne State (18-9) and Cleveland State (23-4). Sophomore Nick Stockdale finished the day 12-0 against his foil opponents. Freshman Kaitlyn Bogan defeated her Northwestern opponents in two epee bouts. The women finished 3-2, defeating Wayne State (19-8), Lawrence (19-8) and Cleveland State (20-7) and lost to Florida (17-10) and Northwestern (24-3).

"This was a good weekend for us. On the women's side, we had three injuries and some of our star players out for this tournament yet we still held our own. We had some freshmen step up, namely Kaitlyn Bogan who won two bouts against Northwestern, which is a very strong team. Our men's epee team did very well and achieved a record of 7-3. The only teams they lost to were Wayne State and Notre Dame--both were (5-4). Stockdale from the men's foil team had an incredible day on Sunday, and was 12-0 against all opponents."

On Feb. 13-16, several Air Force fencers will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2009 Junior Olympics tournament.
