SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Following a winning performance on the pommel horse at last weekend's All-Academy Championships, Air Force junior Jack Matlock was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's Specialist of the Week this morning (Feb. 19).
Matlock scored a career-best 14.175 to win the pommel horse and help No. 10 Air Force to victories over eighth-ranked Nave and ninth-ranked Army West Point at the All-Academy Championships on Feb. 15. Leading the Falcons to a 1-2 finish on his signature event, Matlock helped the Falcons out-score their service academy counterparts by nearly three points on that event and record a season-high team score of 314.500.
It is the first conference honor for the Virginia Beach, Va., native – and the third time in as many weeks that a member of the Falcons' pommel horse lineup has garnered MPSF Specialist honors.
The Falcons are off from team competition until March 14, when they travel to West Point, N.Y., for a triangular meet with Army West Point and Simpson.
