
Falcons Lead Grand Canyon, Kacey Hu Breaks 1-Meter Record

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo., - The Falcons lead Grand Canyon 127-59 following the first day of the dual meet on Friday at Cadet Natatorium. The evening was highlighted by Kacey Hu, as she broke the Academy's 1-meter springboard record. The swimmers recorded four individual first-place finishes.
Sophomore Hu scored a 282.80 to surpass the previous record of 277.43, set in 2020, and claimed first on the 1-meter. She was followed in second by Chloe Perkins (272.35) and in third by Arianna Caldwell (244.35).
"Kacey has had her sights set on the 1m record since the day she entered the Academy," said head diving coach Kyle Van Valkenburg. "I am ecstatic for her and her accomplishment. I can't wait to see her break the record many times over."
On the 3-meter, Perkins took the gold with a score of 280.30, while Jaffe (254.65) and Hu (252.55) locked in third and fourth place.
"Our team has not raced in two weeks and they stepped up to race a good GCU team today," expressed head coach Colleen Murphy. "We had some big wins and some in-season best times."
Air Force's 400 free relay team comprised of Ryan Mills, Natalie Doig, Hannah Seal, and Lily Larson scored 11 points for their first-place finish at 3:24.00.
Jena Nowoswiat earned the top spot in the 400 IM after touching the wall at 4:32.34 and was joined in second by Elizabeth Sistrunk at 4:33.05.
Taking first in the 100 free was Larson, with a time of 50.87 to score nine points for the Falcons. Mills earned the silver placement at 51.27, while freshman Seal placed fourth (51.87).
In the 200 back, Addy Forbes clocked a time of 2:02.06 for a first place finish with Sadie Hartig right behind at 2:02.41 for second.
With a time of 5:00.03, distance swimmer Katie Andrist scored nine points in first place for AF. Seal (5:05.61) and Hartig (5:09.45) followed behind for third and fourth place.
Maeve Linscott finished the highest for Air Force in the 200 breast, in second with a time of 2:17.94. Reagan Kampschror (2:20.16) and Naomi Furman (2:20.40) rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth, respectively.
The 100 fly saw Mills earn her second silver medal of the evening with a time of 55.63, while teammates Doig (56.94) and Lily Bachl (57.23) finished in third and fourth.
Murphy commented, "We are so proud of the tenacity of this team and their ability to defend their home pool."
The Falcons will return for more action against Grand Canyon on Saturday November 1 at 11 a.m. MT in the Cadet Natatorium.
