Lisa Smith enters her 16th year as an athletic trainer for the Air Force Academy. She currently works with women's gymnastics and water polo.
Smith is a 1986 graduate of the University of Colorado, where she earned a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. She followed that by earning a master's in the same field at Slippery Rock in 1989.
In 2001, Smith volunteered for the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y., working with the USA Women's Hockey National Team Festival. In 2002, she was selected as the athletic trainer for the 2002 USA Basketball Young Women's National Team, which competed in the qualifying tournament for the 2002 COPABA World Championship for Young Women in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil. The team defeated Brazil for the gold medal.
Before coming to the Academy in 1994, Smith spent five years as an assistant athletic trainer at Merrimack College. She was the head athletic trainer for both men's and women's basketball and women's soccer, while also working extensively with baseball, softball and men's soccer.
